Our History

Exterior of the acting academy

The Academy of Dramatic Arts was founded in 1985 with a vision to provide aspiring actors, directors, and playwrights with a comprehensive and transformative education. From its humble beginnings in a small studio in downtown Los Angeles, the Academy quickly grew into a renowned institution known for its rigorous training, experienced faculty, and commitment to artistic excellence.

In its early years, the Academy focused primarily on classical acting techniques, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Stanislavski, Meisner, and Adler. As the entertainment industry evolved, the Academy adapted its curriculum to incorporate modern acting methods, film production techniques, and digital media skills. This commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation has allowed the Academy to remain a relevant and respected leader in performing arts education.

Over the years, The Academy of Dramatic Arts has expanded its facilities to include state-of-the-art theaters, rehearsal studios, film production sets, and editing suites. The Academy has also established partnerships with leading theater companies and film studios, providing students with valuable opportunities for internships, workshops, and professional networking. Our dedication to creating a supportive and collaborative learning environment has fostered a vibrant community of artists who are passionate about their craft.

Throughout its history, The Academy of Dramatic Arts has remained committed to its core values: excellence, integrity, creativity, and community. These values guide our curriculum, our faculty, and our interactions with students, alumni, and industry partners. We are proud of our history and excited about the future of The Academy of Dramatic Arts.
